EASTERN BALBOA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Eastern Balboa Championships was, as usual, the bomb!
There is no other event that, in my humble experience, so perfectly embodies l'esprit de le Bal. Then again maybe I'm just partial to the ol' home turf. At any rate, it was a great weekend. We got to learn from Jason Herron & Andie Tremblay, From David Rehm and Nick williams, From Bobby White and Kate Hedin, and many more. I know that those names may not mean much to some of you - but they could, and they will once you've become one of the few, the loud, the Hep Cats.
But Hep Cat or not, Swing events are just the best thing. There's a focus on learning that isn't present at most dance events. There's a feeling that everyone is there to learn and improve as well as to compete and have fun. It's a chance to meet new people from all over the world and show them up. It's a chance to learn things that (unless you live in DC or LA or Montreal or something) you would never have learned at home.
"So when is the next big swing event" you may ask. Good question. There are a few over new years. But we will, as we become bigger and more organized, be becoming more involved. So stay tuned true believers. There IS more to come.
